4 out of 5 stars Great but some features not implemented or well documented   June 9, 2008

I'm a pro audio guy. I recently invested in a hand-held audio recorder that uses SD cards. I thought that I'd be able to play "Wav" files on this head unit but, alas, no. The SD card reader is great for storing MP3s and other compressed formats, but it won't play wav files. Sad.

Before I purchased the Memphis, I read the manual, downloaded from the Blaupunkt website. The terrible 'power-up' animation could, it said, be replaced with a 20 frame user-created one. I followed the directions carefully and, after more than an hour of wasted time, tech support explained that the feature was never implemented. Sad.

Lastly, because this headunit supports folder/file structures on MP3 cds, SD cards, and USB drives, the manual claimed that User Created playlists were implementable. This, for me, was an absolute necessity. After trying, and failing, repeatedly tech support said they had no idea how to implement playlists. Lame.

Also, it is a bit underpowered.

All in all, this is a fantastic head unit but the USA version of the company is sadly lacking in expertise, training, and customer service.

I currently have a friend who lives in Germany trying to track down information about playlists from German tech support. Hopefully he'll have more luck than I did.
