great product for a great price only problem is i own an infiniti i35 which fits double din but has bose... if you have bose in your car you will need a new sub woofer the bose does not connect with this unit! you might want to consider doing research very pricey to get installed! but other than that the device is great!
Best price per feature but it's SLOW! March 11, 2009 C. Williams (Baton Rouge) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I will start by saying that I owned this unit's predecessor (AVX800) so I had something to compare this unit against.
This unit is feature rich and I had high hopes based on my experience with the AVX800. The unit is gorgeous and very sleek with only a few slim buttons on the face. I like the fact that those buttons only light up when you're about to use them so no night time glare. In my vehicle the unit is a little deeper than the 800 so it protrudes out a little further than I'd like. The remote is simple but doesn't provide much access to the unit's menus. Attaching and detaching the face takes a little getting used to but once you figure it out you'll be good to go.
GUI: The 810's GUI is decent. The menus are very similar to the older model which I liked. There have been some changes mostly for the better like the ability to scroll through files using a scroll bar like on your computer. You also have the ability to control the unit's volume with the touch screen volume knob though it takes a little getting used to. Now that I think about it almost all of the buttons on the face of the unit are available on the touch screen now which makes me wonder why the redundancy? The unit has a display option that allows you to show album art which I think is cool.
Sound: This unit sounds great. There is a good EQ built in along with a crossover. All the features you need to tune your stereo to your liking are available. All of these controls are the same from the older model.
Video: The picture is on par with most units of this type. Not impressive but not terrible.
Performance: For some reason this unit is really slow. Most units that read MP3 disks have a slight delay compared to audio CD's so this was expected. This unit takes it to a level that is almost intolerable. On the 800 I would wait less than 10 seconds for a DVD filled with MP3's to start playing and that's all the waiting you'd ever do once it was loaded. On the 810 it's almost twice as long if not longer. When you go into the list view you have to wait, once you start scrolling you have to wait all you do on this unit is wait. What's even worse is the performance from a USB source. I have an external HDD that I wanted to use with this unit. Upon connection of the HDD be prepared to wait for almost a minute or more before anything starts playing. Now I'm having a problem getting the unit to read new files that I've add to my HDD. There isn't any firmware support from JVC so I doubt anything will be done about the performance issues.
Overall: I think the unit is loaded with features that you'll enjoy if you don't mind waiting for them. If it performed as well as the older model I'd be really happy. I thought I'd be able to tolerate the slow loading times but it's starting to get old and I'm considering going with something else.
Perfect March 26, 2009 K. Zachow (Spokane, WA) There is nothing to complain about. This product is great. Shipped fast, and is exactly what I wanted.
