3 out of 5 stars Awesome sound quality, low cost, durability issues though   September 29, 2009
Value Proposition

With shipping included the Clarion M275 Marine Stereo arrived at my doorstep for under $97. I had it professionally installed with a top of the line pair of 6.5" two way speakers and the sound is AWESOME! When underway the volume is not quite enough to be heard over the engine and wind noise but I bought the stereo to listen to when beached at the sand bar and for that it does a great job.

Newer (read more expensive) Marine stereos may cost more but I don't see the value in their added features (I do not want or need a remote or a larger display). This unit plays any CD/MP3/WMA format, has the auxiliary jack for my iPod/portable MP3 player right on its face, costs under $100 and sounds AWESOME when paired with high quality speakers. What more could you ask for? Throw in a second set of speakers and an amp and you will have a slamming set up!

If you are looking for a straight forward receiver and are in doubt about this unit because so many others sell for $150 to $300 plus don't be. It is a true bargain.

Quick follow up/update; after having the above stereo for less than a year it has failed and had to be sent in for warranty repair due to corrosion. I have the stereo installed in a cuddy cabin and did not expect this to be an issue. This leaves me disappointed as to the durability of the stereo. I still maintain that the sound quality and price represent a tremendous value, but would caution that you must be VERY careful about exposing this unit to the elements as it is not rugged enough to withstand much.

5 out of 5 stars Great looks and sound   April 24, 2009

I was looking for a "silver" faced radio as a replacement that had an "audio in" plug for my Ipod. The only one I found was this one. It has better sound than the factory radio I removed. A lot of receiver for the money!

5 out of 5 stars It still works well   August 31, 2010
Christopher Bruno (La Paz, Baja)
This receiver has been on a 20' center console boat for several years. After being trailered for thousands of miles in Baja, Mexico, and pounded in saltwater (well, not IN saltwater, but by the waves against the hull), it has held up well. It is exposed during winter rains, except for a leaky tarp thrown over the console. I particularly like the rotating volume control knob, which allows me to turn down the volume instantly without fumbling for the right button to push.

It supplies plenty of volume to drive two large waterproof speakers and hear over the engine at full throttle. The iPod port works fine and is very handy. The unit is wired for an electronic mute switch (for some archaic hard-mounted cell phones) and I tried to wire that to an on/off switch, but the documentation is poor and I never got it to work. That would be nice when the VHF radio is calling, or there is some chaos on the boat like a marlin on the hook.

Overall, I am quite surprised it has been this durable.

5 out of 5 stars Clarion M275 Review   May 24, 2010
Steve Bailey (Austin, TX)
Received the marine CD player in a reasonable amount of time (about a week). It was in good shape and operates as advertised. Price was very good, barely over $100 with shipping.

The receiver will not drive the (2) Polk 6.5" and (2) 6x9 tower speakers at higher volumes as it cuts out at when the volume is around 24 on the player. I can use the fader and drive just the tower speaker or just the interior speakers at a higher volume. An amp is required for driving all 4 speakers at reasonably high volume which didn't surprise me too much.

5 out of 5 stars Nice sound   September 22, 2009
David J. Guerrero (louisville ly)
This is still a new unit in my boat, but the sound compared to my original cheapy stereo is night and day. I can`t wait to add 2 more speakers next season. well worth the money!
